Italian engineering company together with local partners is launching a shoe making cluster in Novosibirsk, Russia

by Cecilia Valentini

Italian Macsenior, leader in the design and engineering of new shoe factories, as well as the renovation of existing one, will participate in shoe making cluster in Novosibirsk, Russia.

All necessary documents to launch the project were signed in February 2016, after several rounds of talks between Macsenior and the Agency for development of the Novosibirsk Region. The work on the shoe cluster started back in 2015 in the framework of Russian-Italian bilateral relations between the governments of the Novosibirsk Region and Lombardy region.

The first phase of projecting and consulting, analysis and feasibility studies, has been already finished, thus making it possible to finalize all necessary agreements between the future partners of the cluster. However, the second phase of factory organization, production area and installations will take at least 3 to 5 years.

The head of Macsenior Gianni Skoponi estimates the production capacity of the future cluster at 10 thousand pairs of shoes per day and 3 thousand other leather products, including handbags, wallets, belts etc. The project will provide working places for more than three thousand employees. What’s more, there will be launched a training center to cultivate highly skilled stuff, as there are very little skillful workers in shoe production sector in the region.

Macsenior by following the global trend intends to produce footwear directly in Russia, especially what concerns medium-high segment. The localization of the production there also provides for greater presence of the company on Belarus and Kazakhstan markets.
