by Alice Whale

Putting the style into software, Shoemaster International has headed to Bristol to get more involved in its thriving tech cluster

The-InterchangeBristol’s tech hub Engine Shed recently opened up its ‘Interchange’ lounge (pictured right) to allow for more flexible workspace for a whole host of new businesses and startups in the region. One of its newest members is Shoemaster International, a world-leading designer of 3D CAD/CAM for footwear.

Its software, which was developed by Clarks in Somerset, is now used by over 800 international shoemakers and the team is now expanding with an additional two software developers who’ll be based in the new Bristol office space.

“When we discovered Engine Shed, it was immediately apparent that it could provide the perfect base for us to start this exciting new challenge”

Ian Paris (pictured left) Shoemaster’s CTO says: “We’re thrilled to be expanding our company into the Interchange. It brings new opportunities for networking within a vibrant and innovative environment, as well as providing a base to forge stronger research partnerships with Bristol and Bath Universities.”

Shoemaster has already benefited from the diverse Engine Shed ecosystem, having built connections with residents including YellowDog, TechSPARK and SETsquared alumni, Ultrahaptics. Their tenure in the Interchange will bring the company closer to their networks in the Bristol city-region and will benefit other tenants by bringing in business from further afield.

Ian adds: “We recently joined the Atom group, and our new board has given the strategic direction to recruit a new team focussed on technological innovation for our industry. When we discovered Engine Shed, it was immediately apparent that it could provide the perfect base for us to start this exciting new challenge.”
